Here's what participants say about these dissection classes:
"I had extensive anatomy class in PT school, at that time I was learning what I needed to know to be an entry level PT. Today I was able to relate what my patients have said, their symptoms and how I treat patients to the anatomy. [A] very functional and fun class!"
"Whether you are a first year student just beginning to study CST, or if you are a veteran of 15 years - this workshop will enhance your work and make your profession come alive."
March '10 participants had the following to say:
"A must take!"
"This is a hands-on dissection class in which each person can assist/perform the dissection. What areas are dissected depend upon upon the interest of the participants."
"Anyone interested in dissection, DO NOT PASS GO, proceed directly to CS Dissection!"
"I would highly recommend this course as it provides an excellent understanding about how CST effects the body parts and function. It was fabulous!"
"Take it. It will give you appreciation of structure that you feel superficially."
"Thank you for an absolutely incredible day of learning.
I have found myself speaking of the dissection frequently, with the prologue, "this is the most interesting thing I did this summer."
It has given a new visualization to my work."

Dissection: The World We Touch
An Extraordinary Opportunity Not to be Missed
and May Never Happen Again!
Fall 2014 is your last* opportunity this year to study the body up-close and personal, with a scalpel in your hand. We'll be spending an incredible four days in the lab.
Be prepared to be amazed as you explore, layer by layer, the central nervous system and have an incredible learning experience.
If you have been wanting to do these classes, this may be your last opportunity. Don't delay in registering!
Day 1 - Spine
Day 2 - Sacred Sacrum & Friends (New!)
Day 3 - Cranium & Posterior Neck
Day 4 - TMJ/Mouth & Anterior Neck
Day 4 - Bodywork for Sacred Sacrum (New!)
Each day is designed as a stand-alone class and together all four will give you a thorough exploration of the craniosacral system, central nervous system, TMJ/mouth, sacrum and pelvis.
Attend one, two, three or four days and gain a deeper appreciation for the human body.
What is the purpose of Dissection: The World We Touch?
The best way to learn about what you are effecting with your therapy is to put your hands on it - not just the outside of the body but also the inside.
We have an unprecedented opportunity to study the body up close and personal. We will spend the day doing dissection on fresh-frozen specimens examining the central nervous system of the body.
Spine: If you work with people who have back pain, you'll understand their problems better by the end of this day. We will examine the spine and some of the sacrum, from the skin to the spinal column, to the dural tube and spinal cord, to the filum terminale and cerebral spinal fluid. Along the way we'll thoroughly discuss how the techniques you use can help your client to heal.
Sacred Sacrum & Friends: New Offering!
For this rare class, Judith Sullivan, ZB Teacher, will be your tour guide with Julie (McKay) Covert. Judith will expertly explore the ways of the sacrum and its importance to Zero Balancing, CranioSacral Therapy and Visceral Mobilization. Judith’s experience, expertise and curiosity about this Sacred Bone will be revealed as Julie expertly helps us to understand the dissection process. We will be looking and speaking about the sacral iliac joint; the coccyx and its relationship to the cranium; the coccyx and its relationship to the viscera; the sacrum and its relationship to the pelvic cavity; the sacrum and its relationship to the hip joint. We will also be looking at “Sullivan’s Notches,” and the role they play in the movement of the SI joint.
Bodywork for Sacred Sacrum: New Offering!
With the insight and visualizations gleaned from the sacral dissection class, learn to work with special sacral fulcrums. These are done from a Zero Balancing viewpoint, using ZB principles. They are simple but profound. (Prerequisite Sacred Sacrum & Friends dissection. No ZB experience necessary.)
Cranium: Get a rare look at the inner workings of the human cranium. Review important external landmarks and reveal layer by layer the structures under your hands - cranial bones, sutures, dura, parenchyma, blood vessels, cranial nerves, and more. We will also examine the posterior neck, occiput and it's working relationship to the atlas and axis.
TMJ/Mouth: Do you or your clients have clicking or popping when opening the mouth? Come find out why and how the mouth and TMJ play vital roles in many dysfunctions of the neck, head and shoulders. We will also examine the anterior neck.
Who can attend?
No previous dissection experience is necessary. Yes, even lay people can participate.
In particular, you want to take this class if you have any interest in the craniosacral system.
This is a hands-on experience and you will have a scalpel at your disposal. We will begin the morning suiting up and talking about what we are going to view. The morning will be spent dissecting examining specimens to learn more about how the body fits and connects together.
We'll then take a lunch break and go back to the table, continuing our explorations.
Questions are encouraged, so start making a list of what you would like to see and learn more about!
Are these embalmed cadavers?
The specimens we will be working with are considered fresh-frozen. This means that they have not been embalmed and are do not contain formaldehyde.
Can I take pictures?
Yes, absolutely! Please bring your camera. You can see pictures from previous classes at www.JulieMCovert.com. DVDs of these classes will also be available.
Are CE hours available?
Yes, 7 CE hours are available for massage therapists and bodyworkers through NCBTMB.
All other therapists - I can provide you with information to submit to your licensing board.
Why does it cost so much?
It may seem like $500 is a high price to pay for one day's worth of learning. This is a day that will be with you for a long time.
The cost is set to cover the lab fees of setting up the table ($1600), gowns, glasses, gloves, etc. and to help cover the cost of the specimen used ($1200 - 2500).
Everyone who participates in a class says it improved their skills by leaps and bounds, so come explore the body from head to tail!
Probably not, unfortunately this set of classes is the only one schedule for 2014 and there is a good chance that we may not have future opportunities. So if you've wanted to do this class, NOW is possibly your last opportunity.
